Did the coffee and the cigarettes cause the inebriation or were you partaking of a different kind of substance?

Its not inappropriate! I discussed this issue before in another chess forum.
I think it fun playing chess when out and about with friends when drinking etc It opens the game to a new audience who would normally not play chess.
When i was in Germany 2 summers ago i stayed up until near 3am playing chess and drinking in a pub with a U.S. soldier of some sort (based in Germany). The next day i had a long game with a local in the same pub and we played for much of the day too. I met some nice people those two days :)
Chess isint always about winning and losing, its a social game and we should jump at the chance to socialise while doing something we love insted of confining it to the home or to grubby old clubhouses.
I used to play in my local pub whilst having a few beers and it is fun but the ultimate game for that is darts!
