Political Correctness the science of being able to hang your ass on Yahoo if you even say anything that might piss off a beaver.

The only real thing I'd like to add to this thread, is that regardless of what you(anyone) or I thinks about any given issue, PC is not some massive conspiracy. It's more likely just the organic result of discriminated groups pushing back, sometimes a little too far I admit.

This sort of reminds me of a conversation I had with my extended family today. I'm the weird college educated hippie-esque millennial in a family primarily consisting of conservative, older, lower education people. Actually I am quite polite in person, as I tend to listen and reflect instead of argue even if something is said I don't agree with. Then I come here and take it out on you guys ;) hehe jk.

Anyway the conversation was about cancer treatments and cures. My cousin brought up the fact that there's no cure because of population control and there's more money in treating rather than curing. And he thinks there already is a cure. I bought into that idea maybe 3-4 years ago.

The reality is that it's less of a conspiracy and more of an organic, systematic flaw with how scientific research is funded. Pharmaceutical companies fund most cancer research and so they are funding treatments without even looking for a cure. It's not like they're specifically avoiding cures, it's just that they're not seeking them. In other words, it's not so much an evil conspiracy so much as just business as usual in capitalism.

I think the same lesson can be applied to PC. It's organic and there are systematic reasons why it's happening. It's easy to sit there and brew up conspiracy theories because that would mean an easy solution.

Sad news: there is no easy solution because it's not being consciously directed by anyone. It's occurring under all our noses, subtly, invisibly. To fix the symptom doesn't require treating the symptom, it requires treating the illness.

Yeah, censorship is bad, but at the same time most of the ideas censored by political correctness are idiotic and hurtful.

So I don't really agree with censorship, but I also don't really respect most opinions that go against political correctness. There's always exceptions though. And yes it does go too far sometimes.

Why are you so ignorant?
It doesn't matter if it is hurtful. People should deal with it or not read it, freedom of speech I say. Not freedom to be oppressed

Political correctness is a necessary part of free speech in a society. It is perfectly demonstrated by this quote. happy.png

null

If you respect free speech, then you should also respect the right of people to respond negatively to statements they dislike, and society doing it as a whole is precisely what political correctness is.

---

Political correctness can, however, deteriorate to plain harassment, when society not only talks back, but also actively persecutes, as a moral police, those it dislikes hearing. That's not a problem with political correctness though, that's a problem with people who historically have striven to force each other to their way of thinking. This kind of thing should be (and is) actively criticized, and if you are perfectly honest with your belief in freedom of speech - and not a hypocrite thinking that freedom of speech should only apply to the ideas you like - then you should even defend those you strongly disagree with from societal harassment.

Roosevelt and Stalin are talking.

"We have democracy" Roosevelt says. "Everyone can come out onto the street, and say that Roosevelt is an idiot"

"We also have democracy" Stalin replies. "here as welll, everyone can come out onto the street, and say that Roosevelt is an idiot"
