I’ve been looking at some old books and their titles said “masque” instead of “mask”. Is that how it was spelled before, or is it something else?

masque is actually a real English word. But it means basically the same as mask lol

cellen01

Masque is also mask but in French.

I assume it's a variant spelling, just like a check (for transferring money) is spelled "cheque" in British English.
