my only suggestions are using a slightly more contrastive colour pallet (e.g. spruce +
deepslate + moss or brick)
and using a different shape instead of a square , (e.g. an L shape, a T shape, an H shape, etc.)
both of these in combination have been quite successful for me at least :)
