I'd say just go the the library or bookstore, or surf on Amazon and try to find something that looks good to you.

I really like The Guardians of Ga'Hoole. They were some of the first books I bought for myself at the school book sale. Those, and Artemis Fowl.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. City of Ember is pretty good, too. I think my sister got that one and we both read it.
