Religious discussion

Dear Members:

As you know chat containing political or religious content is strictly prohibited.  If a member sends a religious comment or makes an offensive statement to another member the posting member will be suspended or banned from chess.com.  My problem is that member names like devilchrist are allowed to be used freely.  This is clearly a contradiction, whereas religion is banned from chat, a vulgar member name like devilchrist is uncensored.  Screen names are just as much a form of chat as anything else after all it is printed text that is viewable to other members.  I wonder if a member were to use a screen name that contains a vulgar racial slur wouldn't be immediately banned.  I sure hope it would be. Lets be fair to everyone.  Lets not sensor positive religion from chat and then allow disgusting very offensive screen names with negative religious content.  I am offended by names like devilchrist as I am sure fellow Christians are.  I am as offended by these names as I am or would be with racial or political or sexual slurs or attacks against Islam or Hindu or Judaism etc.  Please join me in petitioning chess.com administration in banning all vulgar religious content.  Remember Politically correct is for everyone.  Thank You for your time and attention to this matter.

Your point is stupid! You are offended because you want to be.

There are many Groups with the word Christian in them, should they be banned?

I will not get into your "positive religion" comment. You should check yourself, your hypocrisy is showing.

My point is fair is fair and something that is obviously offensive to the Christian religion or a persons race or sex should be banned.  No hypocrisy here just the truth in this case.  I am bound by the rules just like anyone.  I am no better than anyone because of my beliefs but it is normal not to want to be offended.  Positive religion simply means that I believe in what my religion stands for, negative religious comments are those that bash my religion just like the " N " word bashes African Americans and that bashing is wrong. ITS  WRONG -NEGATIVE get it?  Consistancy is key here. As far as you saying I am offended because I "want to be"....wow. People are offended by bad smells, loud noises when sleeping and rude comments that are offensive to their belief system political, religious or otherwise just to name a few.  Wanting to be is some type of existential philosophy not pertenant to this discussion. Thanks

In my opinion you have a fair point, k2bcm3.  Without trivialising the discussion, your own login-name could be deemed unpalatable (though clearly not offensive) to people who prefer to read pronouncible names or 'sensible' names. I mention this just to point up some of the complexities in this arena.

To take a more relevant example, some groups would find the handle christman reasonable - others not.

chess.com has a clear policy against causing offence - which covers avatars and images as well as words. It also has a policy against slating individual members by name in in the public forums.

I believe you will get a considered response if you report specific problematical login names to the Support team, using the link at the bottom of every page.
