Yeah but they don't ban people for being stupid so...

But they should.  I'm all in favor of zero tolerance and treating this place like it is a privilege not a right.  Vote for me as head mod and I will take out the trash.

Ok, I've enjoyed this, I hope you have, I know everyone else has. But you can go now.

Well, the troll was banned, and this topic can get back to being about @IMBacon

Fun fact: IMBacon was not actually an international master of chess with a FIDE rating of at least 2400 at any point.

Yeah. I don't know that Jesus would approve of the fake IM title he gave himself.

I can't speak for IMBacon, but since going keto, I think my trips to the bathroom are a little less frequent. I hadn't heard that Bacon left us. Dang...

Meh, lets be honest with ourselves, fad diets only yield relative results i.e. practically anything is better than eating Taco Bell on a daily basis. There's no actual value to eating bacon and drinking coffee. Like most mundane things in life the answer isn't very interesting: eat a balanced diet and don't exceed 100% of your daily dose of anything, because why the hell would you?

You think medical doctors are running around doing this stuff? Or is it the uneducated common-man picking up tabloids while in the checkout line at his local grocery store?

I mean really...

It's really strange - imho, keto is both a fad diet and the ultimate anti-fad diet. The more I researched it, the more I realized its many advantages. I won't try to sell you on it because trying to change people's minds is work, and I'm lazy at heart. wink.png (And, yes, some medical doctors are going keto, because some of them actually do the research.)

Well hey, I like to have fun here, and poking fun at people is fun and easy.

If it works for you that's great, and I wish you continued success happy.png

Thank you. Keto has made a huge difference in my life - literally the best decision I've made in my entire life. (No exaggeration) I can't imagine ever going back to the Standard American Diet.

Are you serious?  There are Mods here that ignore trolling, off topic posts, personal attacks, political posts etc all day long.

Naa, Mods aren't paid (at least not most of them) so they're not on the site 40+ hours a week. You have to forgive them if they don't catch every little thing. When they see it, they definitely take action. At least that's been my experience.

I mean, they caught it pretty quickly. I know it could have been faster, but these are unpaid positions.

They could offer a bounty for malicious trolls perhaps.

The site has moderation guidelines that are followed and being extremely strict is not something that adheres to that, at least not in the way you mean (certain things are strictly enforced, a lot of other things receive more leeway).

Until/unless staff change the guidelines, then moderators are not going to be more strict. Also, most moderators are volunteers and not paid. Even moderators that may get paid, may not be paid for work done in the forums. Moderation happens when it is seen and there won't be 24/7 coverage.

Well that is the whole point.  The site is not strict enough.  Have you really been told not to be too strict?  Because the damage done by the "leeway" you give is far worse than the perceived damage of being strict, by hurting people's feelings or whatever you think that damage would be.

And I ask if you have been told to be lenient because there is a mod in the chess equipment forums who is very strict and warns people for getting off topic all the time.  It works great.  So it seems to me enforcing the TOS is the mods job and there should be no problem with enforcing them more diligently.

I don't think it matters whether mods are paid or not.  As I have mentioned in another thread where we discussed this, I was an unpaid mod in a very big forum.  No one expects 1 mod to catch everything.  But a mod should be expected to take action and not ignore a TOS violation.  And members should expect that a forum this size has enough unpaid mods to keep this place under control.  There simply aren't enough mods here, and some of them are ignoring the guideline violations.

Yes, there is a less is better guidance when it comes to moderation. That shifts sometimes, in regards to certain things that come up, but a lot of the time that holds. There are lock on site, ban on sight, and delete on site posts/accounts, but for some of the less harmful things, moderation in moderation is the way it is.

Some mods may be a little more strict and some may only moderate the more egregious things as well. There is some subjectivity, but there are the official guidelines and staff guidance towards leniency in many areas.
