Here’s my theory…:
‘Twas a lonely Tuesday night, when and Cartel infiltrated Washington DC. They kidnapped an Air Force pilot, and forced them to go dirty. This pilot then went and sabotaged multiple planes, so that a vital function will fail while flying. Only, on one of those, he accidentally broke the wrong part, causing the plane to constantly be in a state of between gears: supersonic and normal. When the big day finally came, the first one crashed, then the second one mysteriously went supersonic instead of crashing, then the third plane crashed.
