North Korea is not a failed government? They are not meeting the basic needs of their citizens. That's a failed government.
Seven Big Failed Environmentalist Predictions

Yes we are. The normal background rate of extinction is 5 to 10 species per year. We are averaging over 200 extinctions per year, and that is the low estimate. Some researchers believe it's as high as 2000 species per year.
The reason you cannot accurately make that comparison is that speciation is descibed differently by modern taxonomists, as compared to paleontologists. That is to say, the current number of species today greatly outnumbers past species, as a function of methodology.
Paleontologists describe spieces primarily on the morphology of the remains, without taking into account factors such as coloration, ability to breed, etc.

North Korea is not a failed government? They are not meeting the basic needs of their citizens. That's a failed government.
Is the North Korean government a functioning entity? It is.
It has not lost political authority or control of the police power. It may be corrupt and morally bankrupt, but it is not failed.

Then how do you know that we are not in a mass extinction event,in comparison to previous events?
You attempt to make the case of a current mass extinction event, with an apple-oranges comparison of estimates of lost species.
There have been five major mass extinction events in geologic history: 1) Ordovician-Silurian event (approx 447-443 Ma); 2) The late Devonian event (approx 375-360 Ma); 3) Permian-Triassic event/Paleozoic-Mesozoic event (approx 252-251 Ma); 4) Triassic-Jurassic event (approx 201 Ma); 5) Cretaceous-Tertiary event/Mesozoic-Cenozoic event (65 Ma).
These events saw global disruption of existing genera (a more reliable measure than species).
You can see here, the so-called "Holocene Extinction event" (@ "0" on the right of the graph) does not reflect anywhere near the same loss of life as in the earlier major (and minor) events:

Very interesting OP/article
thanks for posting. :)

The only shortages of food, oil, etc are just man made shortages through excessive regulations and other means, designed to crimp the abundance of natural resources and economies for greater control and power over the general population.

Very dangerous posts, in both ways.. There will always be 'evidence' in both ways. I would think twice posting anything in obviously bies opinion. That will affect 90% of the readers, and there's hardly any thought about possibility of beeing wrong about our opinions.

Global warning may be the biggest con the governments and scientists have ever pulled on us. Governments want more control and scientists get more money if they can scare us enough :)

I agree there is alarmism and distortion; but there are also legitimate environmental issues. Toxic waste (I remember in the 70s when a river caught fire somewhere from the pollution; there are islands of plastic trash as big as Texas in our oceans (google ocean gyres) which are killing sea life, there is nuclear waste all over the place, especially Russia (Chernoybl was just the tip of the iceberg).
Just because not all predictions come true does not mean action is not needed. Some of the predictions have not come true because action has been taken.

Very true ab. The scientists are forever flying round the world to tell us this. Then they switch to their 4 x 4's to the nearest super- heated conference centre.
Really? which ones. What are their names? Have you seen them driving 4x4s? In any case, even if they are hypocrites as you say, it doesn't change the facts

the Americans anti government sentiment is bordering on paranoia. We have had the hottest ocean temperatures on record, the rainforest which acts like a lung for the world is being depleted at unprecedented level and they are still slobbering on about government intervention as if George Washington had just crossed the Delaware yesterday. They need someone to feel their bums to bring them back to reality.

The geologic record tells us that the Earth has been much hotter in times past. Because roughly 80% of the Earth's surface is water, hotter equates to moister, and moister equates to lush.
We are, after all, just coming out of a glacial period - one of the coldest periods in the last 65 million years.
I do agree with you that the rainforests should be preserved to the greatest degree possible.
The difference between Americans and Brits is that we Americans are subjects to no government or ruler.
God save the Queen! ;^)

It is all about money and greed, Ricky.

Al Gore is not a scientist. He's a failed politician and wannabe environmental rock star. He is inconsequential.
The dire predictions of global famine were faulty, because they neglected to factor in increased food productivity and distribution.
With regard to governments and starvation, consider the North Korean famine of the late 1990s. Some evidence suggests the government made calculated decisions to starve their own people, in pursuit of other goals. The government did not fail (= descend into anarchy, as in places like Somalia).
Let us not conflate moral failure with collapse.
