You are planning on ousting the British monarchy?
So, any plans for the week ahead?

You are planning on ousting the British monarchy?
lol, no. Cracking idea though.

i dont really plan much stuff nor do i try2set goals2make. so...no. no big plans. im stuck here on a island & mosta the time im just kinda hanging out. yee !

There's a reason why Cromwell's statue is cordoned off, but site restrictions forbid me from making any reference to it.
You *might* want to ask any person of Irish descent...

Ah historical revisionism... I will just make this one comment and leave it at that... I think it's very dangerous to attempt to 'eradicate' parts of history which are unpalatable to modern standards. They are factual bits of history nonetheless, and be they good or bad they have all contributed to the present. Things should remain as a reminder IMO. Anyone whose feelings are damaged by events hundreds of years ago should consider their priorities.

Read more books.

Revisionism eh? Oh aye, I feel constrained to point out that historical denialism is also a thing. And I don't see what's wrong with having feelings about history, feelings are normal aren't they? Show me someone who doesn't have feelings and I'll show you someone who might as well already be dead.
Here's an interesting history:
This empty plinth in London once housed a statue of the Duke of Cumberland - the notorious "Butcher of Culloden". The statue was erected in 1770 but was taken down in 1868 by its owners for recasting and was never put back up. Why? He'd become an embarrassment, that's why. People hated Cumberland even in the 18th Century, of course, and the statue had grown unpopular long before 1868.
It's interesting isn't it? This story says a great deal about how public opinion can shift and how we deal with our own history, which is a collective experience after all. That's a far more interesting history than a static - and frankly, rubbish - statue that's sitting on a guano-encrusted outcrop in a park.

Hey GL1. I hope you're staying safe and coping ok in these trying times.
What do you think of my new avatar? Suitably gothic and with a piratical twist. Just the ticket, wouldn't you say? x
