When chess.com was still in V2, the home page always showed how many members they total and how many new members joined daily. I don't see those numbers now in V3. But I think the last total number was over 30 million total members and 40,000 new members each day. I surmised back then that at least half of those numbers were duplicate accounts held by trolls.
You can still view those numbers. Just goto connect>members and there you'll see the stats at the top of the page.
About 19,000 new members in the past 24 hours. Earlier during the lockdowns, it used to be close to 50,000 easily.

I presume anyone who is banned can circumvent the ban by coming back with a different IP address. Buy a new phone with a different carrier and use it for internet. I guess that is one way.

Evelyn Hailey is alive and well. How he continually gets away with cheating and faking is beyond me. Now he increases his rating by playing himself. Then closing his other fake accounts after 1 day. Not even giving them air time. Let's see if he is building an empire again elsewhere. Only caught him on one profile so far

I have been on this chess site for 10 years and thought I had seen it all. But there is still room for surprises. Now we don’t just have psychopaths and fakes here. We actually have conventions. A who’s who of the fake world. Like a pilgrimage to Mecca where like minded folk head to. An announcement of fake of the year will be announced at dinner.....don’t miss out on tickets😇😇😇😇.

There are many reasons why a member may return in a different account. Many fakes have multiple accounts. Many honest chess players have multiple accounts . Some at the same time. Some closed and re opened. It’s against the rules to have more than one active account but it’s abused
Many fakes are muted, then returned after being reported because past closed accounts cannot be linked despite being told otherwise.
My view to permanently fixing this issue once and go all is simple
If you are a master fake with confirmed multiple accounts in the past it’s a permanent ban after 4 accounts
It sounds ridiculous to have to set a number but one has just been returned after muting with 10s of 10s closed accounts previously
I am versed in sales and marketing though . It makes sense to have fakes and trolls here who are paid up members .it helps with the bottom line.
In multinational firms with shareholders the bottom line is directly linked to shareholders.
At some time a reason to fix the problem permanently overtakes the bottom line.
As community ethics change broadly
If you look closely at a returning master fake returned from muting you will see a diamond, gold etc member.
It just makes sense😇😇😇
I wrote to MGleason (who is a MOD) 3 years ago giving him the names of evelyn and 4 of "her" clones saying they were all the same person and I had no way of doing an IP check and I had friended all of them in order to watch them more closely. They all had the exact same fingerprints, very obvious. Not the same openings, I looked at other factors: avatar, name( not capitalized, full name), fake FIDE rating over 2000, same greeting used to each new friend, etc. The clones kept growing. At least 12. I don't know if mere suspicion that someone has multiple accounts is a valid reason to report someone
