Sad to say that veteran actor Alan Rickman has passed away at age 69. He may best be remembered for playing a villain in the " Harry Potter " films. I very much liked his role in " Bottle Shock " which takes place in California's Wine Country.
Some Favourite Movies
We have lost another actor from the UK, Frank Finlay has passed away at age 89. Finlay played a lot of supporting roles in his lifetime and was nominated for an Oscar back in 1965. Three of the films that I remember him from are: " The Shoes Of The Fisherman " ( with Anthony Quinn ), " Cromwell " ( with Richard Harris ) & " The Wild Geese " ( with Richard Burton, Roger Moore as well as Richard Harris ). Findlay was also very active in the Theatre.
Recently found a cute item on Youtube. Back in 1960 John Wayne was featured in a film " The Alamo ". A set was built out in a remote area of Texas for this film and that set is still standing today. After filming was done the movie set was opened to the public as the Alamo Village. However it was closed in 2010 and is up for sale.
Writer Harper Lee passed away the other day at age 89. I'm mentioning her name here of course because she wrote the book " To Kill A Mocking Bird ".
Somewhere around here I have a copy of the film " Being There " on VHS tape ( Peter Sellers, Melvyn Douglas and Shirley Maclaine were the stars ). Earlier today I was over on Youtube and I came across a video clip of the huge mansion that was used for the exterior shots in that movie, something that had been of interest to me for years. It was the Builtmore Mansion from North Carolina which at 175 thousand square feet & 250 rooms is the largest privately owned house in America ( the Hearst Castle does not count, it is state owned now ). The Vanderbilts had construction started on Builtmore in 1889 and it took several years to finish that huge project.

interesting stuff, baddy. i really liked that movie.
"i like to watch"
I liked that movie. He was addicted to TV.
--- Yes that was a very good film ( & when I was young I was also a bit too fond of TV lol ).

"i like to watch"
--- Yes and It was such a change from the Pink Panther films ( which I also liked a lot ).
Yesterday was the night that the Oscar program was shown on TV and I imagine that a lot of people tuned into that show. Today however is a sad day as we lost veteran character actor George Kennedy at age 91. Kennedy won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor back in 1968 ( Cool Hand Luke ). Younger people probably remember him more from the " Naked Gun " movies. I also liked him in the original " Flight Of The Phoenix ".
Well "Spotlight" took best picture. Its about the Catholic Church pedaphilia crisis but I'm hearing critics say that it is a movie about the 1st amendment. Some people are comparing it to "All The Presidents' Men".
Thanks for the post RonaldJosephCote. I understand that they missed Abe Vigoda when they did the list of people who have passed on, someone sure messed up there ( I mean how could they forget " Fish " ? ).
Just saw the trailer for " The Man Who Knew Infinity ", that looks like a very good movie. It is based on the life of Srinivasan Ramanujan who was a famous mathematician from India.
Btw during one of the scenes in " Good Will Hunting " they are talking about great mathematicians and Ramanujan's name comes up ( & now there is a film about him, not bad ! ).
This is just an info post; The new Batman vs. Superman movie is due out shortly. IN IT, there's a camio of Wonder Woman. (played by an actress that I've never heard of). There will be a movie--"Wonder Woman" out in 6 months to a year. I know this because I'm a personal friend of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

Is this how you became personal friends with Batman and Superman?? ARREEEE YOU JIMMY KIMMEL??!!??!!
The subject of medals came up in another thread and that brought to mind a couple of old movies ( " The Blue Max " and also " Cross Of Iron " ). Then that reminded me of a very well made war movie from the 1960's entitled " The Battle Of Britain " where one could possibly make the case that the Rolls-Royce company saved England. Both the Spitfire and the Hurricane fighter-planes were powered by those very good RR built engines ( & those planes had to push back the German Luftwaffe ).
