Konbanwa, I started studying japanese a while ago... But I don't have a teacher or at least someone native japanese who could help me.

So far I learned Hiragana and I started with Katakana, but after I finish it, what next? I don't know. Would anyone be so kind to help me with my studies or at least... well, any help is appreciated, even if it's just a penpal :)

Konbanha, I'm glad that you study Japanese. It is great job that you had finished learning Hiragana and Katakana. Regarding to what you should learn next, I think, It is depend on what you want to do in Japanese.

A lot of Japanese words are consisted of Kanji (Chinese character) and conbined more than two kanji. If you want to read or understand deeply Japanese, you definitely need to study Kanji.  However, there are 1006 words only in which Japanese learn in a elmentaly school. It is very touch to learn so it returns to first quenstion "what do you wanna in Japanese?"

If you want to travel Japan, you don't have to study kanji. If you want to speak in Japanese, you may not have to study kanji for a while...like that.

Thanks for answering, I don't have plans for japanese, but you know, I like japanese anime, japanese music, and the subtitles are a little disturbing, so perhaps I'd need to improve my readings in japanese. But you know, the kanji are really tricky and I don't actually know where to start. And also, every word can be written in hiragana/katakana, so first I think I'd like to have some vocabulary in my head before kanjiing, I think it's best for a foreigner.

You understand everything I wanted you to know. Learning vocabulary before kanji is very good for you. If you have question, you can ask me.
