Here's Kasparovs opinion on who the best player in the world is.
is Gukesh a better player than Magnus Carlson
Better? No. Best? Yes. Hes the world champion Someone needs to remind bro how many times Magnus won the World Champion
Magnus Carlsen has won the Classical World Chess Championship five times. He won the title in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021.
That doesnt change the fact that Gukesh is the world champion right now.
Gukesh is miles away from Magnus he would get hammered in a long match against Magnus, Kasparov sausage is all when Nagnus decided to not defend his title he had retained 5 times when Kasparov stated a world chess champion has to be the two best players abd since the best player is not competing its a 2nd best championship. Gukesh will struggle to defend his title Whoever he faces I think he will struggle??
I think world chess as far as the world title is in a sad place, not one world champion since Magnus decided to walk away as demonstrated worthiness, this is not anyone's fault but as Kasparov as stated and i agree, stating: You cannot have a world chess champion crowned with distinction if the best chess player in the world is not competing.
And the last world championship between Gukesh and Ding was not very exciting afair filled with bad error's on both sides so to end on a blunder was very apt, Kasparov when asked about the championship his response was... one word SAD?
Magnus Carlson is the best player gukesh is also really good but Magnus is way better
Dunno any player with the name "Magnus Carlson". Do you?
Everyone knows even Gukesh himself that Magnus is still the best player, Gukesh would have lost his world championship if he had been playing how he did against Ding, fact is Gukesh made a lot of poor choices during some key middle game positions and Ding never took advantage Gukesh will have to play a lot better when he faces either of the top 3 favourites in Caruana ,Hikaru or Giri and Gukesh hasn't played very consistent as late that's got to improve by a good 35% to stand any chance?
Gukesh got his IM title when he was 12 yo, and he had hardly studied any chess opening. He was playing the same KID-related stuff with both colors, and weird nontheoretical Scandis and Hippos.
But his positional understanding was top notch already.
