The Addictive Quality of Chess.com

Anyone that has been here long enough knows that there is an addictive element in here. Something that keeps one coming back here for more and makes it hard to break away. There are of course many many different factors that come to play here. Why does it happen and what are your thoughts. Are we chess addicts? attention junkies? co dependants? All of the above and then some? What are your thoughts?

People who like to play chess can always find a game here, and there are tools for improvement. Groups offer the opportunity for team competition and social interaction. Forums appeal to those people who like to share their ideas, who like to write and some who just like to argue. I would guess that some frequent visitors find some satisfaction that they can't find elsewhere.

I think it's because chess.com spikes all our drinks.  :P  I like chess.com because I can be left alone when I'm playing a game and any hasslers really can't communicate with me.  The forums are a fun read, too.

I think all chess players have addictive personalities to a certain extent and that is magnified by the delights of the internet. We have people who are the same as us and indulge our pecadillos.

Chess is the poor mans opium as a wise man once said.

You get bothered?  Even though you don't let people post notes or message you and your friends list is hidden?  But I guess it is the Internet and we all know how the Internet feels about girlz.
