Hmmm, makes no sense. Your friend plays in a band and is always dissed? Maybe he's in the wrong band. The story of how The Who made the rehearsal the song is a testament to John.

Maybe your friend isn't a good musician?

Entwistle was almost always the stoic on stage regardless of whatever riot might be going on with the rest of the gang.  A real contrast, especially compared to Pete with his windmills and amazing leaps and scissor-kicks and spins (all while wearing Doc Martens), and Daltrey whipping his microphone around at Mach 1.

Of course, Townshend's latest book provides more stories that Entwistle wasn't quite so quiet off stage-- he was usually the one accompanying Moon on his carousals.  Cool

By the by, I assume everyone has seen the new Hendrix Forever stamp unveiled last week?

Thanks for the posts.

I see that Rod Stewart and Santana are out touring together, should be quite the show.

I saw Santana in 1981 as a warm-up for the Stones.  Very enjoyable even in the Silverdome, which may be one of the worst places on the planet for acoustics.  Stones were great too, of course.  The first performer that night was was Iggy Pop-- he got booed off the stage by his 4th or so song and they had to sweep off the stage (which was absolutely huge for the Stones tour that year) after he left to clean up all the stuff thrown at him.

EDIT:  corrected the year

WOW!,  I just found this thread. I'll read the 45 pages this weekend. Santana was the opening act for a lot of shows inthe 70's at Fillmore West, in San Francisco.

Lol

I saw the Who there, in 89

Yeah, I saw the Who at the Silverdome too, in 1979 and 1982.  The 1979 show had a strange feeling-- it was only 3 or 4 days after the 11 people were killed at the Who's Cincinnati concert, and the bandmembers were obviously concerned about the thousands of standing people crammed onto the stadium floor in front of them.  My group was happy to sit in the stands-- the floor looked way too scary to me.  They were passing people back out from the front overhead, and spraying hoses on the crowd to keep them cool.  Daltry and Townshend pleaded several times between songs for people in the back to go up into the stands and relieve pressure on those in the front.

.

Well, technically yes. As they were their own opening act. So indeed, they were on 1st.

No undercard?  Huh.

Blackfoot opened the night for the Who's 1979 Silverdome concert.  In 1982 they had two opening bands-- Eddie Money and then the Clash.  I had looked forward to the Clash, and they sucked.  I didn't have any expectations for Eddie Money, and he did a great set.

That was a long day.  We got to the Dome several hours early, and good thing, too, because that was how long it took us to battle through the crowds and lines and still get inside in time to find reasonable seats.  By the time the Who finally wrapped up we'd been there about 10 hours, a good chunk of it outside struggling for position for when the doors opened.  Gotta love those shows that sell 75,000 or 80,000 tickets and every one of them is "general admission".  Cool

I just reme, ber it was HOT!

I just looked up the 1982 concert on FanReport.  They note that the Clash was booed heavily during their entire set but refused to leave early.

The Who didn't take the stage until 10:45 p.m. and played for 2 hours 45 minutes.

The Who and Clash fans would be polar-opposites in US back then.

Today the Clash/Strummer has gigantic cult following (especially amongst the young) Stateside.

They took part in US festival 1983.

Thanks for the recent posts.

I gather that several members of Fleetwood Mac are out touring together, good to hear that they are making music again.

Thanks for the post Varelse 1. I got the info from the radio and they were quite brief with their report. One could use Google for further updates.

The Boss will be touring North America this summer. Hopefully, Morello will be in most shows. It's quite a collaboration.

I haven't been able to post vids since cc decided they would change their way, otherwise I would do it.

Springsteen was a fan of Morello. RATM dissolved, and he and Tom are touring together.

If you want to see how they get along, go to yt, and watch the ghost of Tom Joad at the rock and roll hof induction in 2012.

One of the reasons Bruce has the fans he has is that he listens to all music. Unafraid to incorporate new sound.

Danny and Clarence passed. Bruce has said that CC was one of his best friends.

Morello is crazy good (my opinion) on the latest Bruce album.
