Oh contrire my friend. They recorded enought, but nothing that the radio stations liked. Late 70's they had a tune I can't remember, but the line was, "Ashes, ashes, all fall down". Middle 70's, some FM stations picked up on "Truckin". In the 70's album sales were booming, as opposed to top ten hits. The Dead had "Workingman's Blues", "Skeletons In The Closet", "Steal Your Face", my favorite due to the anti-military tune--"U.S.Blues", "From The Mars Hotel".
The Beatles or The Rolling Stones or who ? ( or even the Who ? )
vaselse1; on a side note, I was reading Gregg Allman's autobiography. He said they were playing in Calif with a few people on the bill. Stephan Crosby was waiting for his girlfriend to arrive backstage. She never got there, so somebody else said to Stephan, "If you can't be with the one you love, than love the one your with". A light went on in Stephan's head, and the rest is history.
System_Phailure; just saw that news report about the Boston concert. New England Cable News said about 50 people. U Mass at Amherst won't allow those kinds of concerts anymore for just that reason.
Thanks for all of the recent posts.
Hank Williams SR had a big hit many years ago with " Jambalaya ", a Cajun song that I like very much. Why did I mention that song here ? Well the other day I heard a nice version of that number by Fats Domino, done in a pleasant and swinging style ( Fats could make a nice song out of the names in the phone book lol ).
Further update on Rolf Harris, he has been convicted on 12 counts of indecent assault. Being at age 84 now will come into play but he should still get some jail time.
Thanks for the recent Posts.
Btw, will you still luv me when I'm 64 ? Ok how about when I'm 74 ? Today is Ringo Starr's 74th ( let's all sing a verse or two of " We all live in a yellow Submarine " ).
Let me just say one thing right here and now: " I Won't Back Down ! ". Well it is of course Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers who have that song out. The other day CBC radio had a very good 90 minute interview with Tom Petty and they played some nice tunes of his. I do think that one area in which Petty gets a bit short-changed sometimes is as a songwriter.

Another area is his acting. Nobody is as bad at acting as some reviewers claim Petty is.

--- Thanks for the post Cystem_Phailure. I'm so far out of touch that I didn't know about Petty trying his hand at acting. Not that there is anything wrong in that I mean look at all of the films that Elvis made.
How many of us remember Kris Kristofferson from his days prior to moving to Hollywood ? ( yes another Singer & Actor ).
Most times I mention films in my thread about movies but I want to list " Get On Up " here. Yes this is the bio-pic on the life of James Brown and seems to be very interesting, I wouldn't mind seeing this film when it goes to DVD. I gather that Mick Jagger was a co-producer on this movie.
Cabby, the James Brown movie does look interesting, but, I'll wait, also. After all, it's a movie, not a documentary.

AlCzervik: Good point, mind you there have been some good films about Singers. Years ago there was a movie with Gary Busey about Buddy Holly that was quite good. Also I remember a nice film about Jerry Lee Lewis with Dennis Quaid ( Lewis even did the music for that movie ).
I agree, cabby. The only issue I have with films like this, is...is it true? Just tell us if you are making a movie, or, a documentary.

BTW, fans of Peter Frampton should be polite and not crowd the stage area with their cell-phones while recording him. Frampton recently took a fan's cell-phone and fired it at the nearest wall lol.

I think you could throw The Grateful Dead in there too. Their jam sesions were not what the radio stations wanted in the early 70's. Eventually, they had a couple of commercial successes.

Just my opinion, but I don't thinkTGD cared about chart hits. I would be surprised if they coulda told you what the inside of a studio looked like.
