Thanks for the recent posts.
Movies are good places to hear interesting songs brought back to life. In " As Good As It Gets " One song that they feature is " I love You For Sentimental Reasons " ( not sure who does that version ). I recently heard a 1940s release of that song done by Keely Smith, mind you I'm not too sure if that was the first version of that song to be put out.
The British Are Coming ! The British Are Coming !
Well it was back in 1964 ( on Feb 7th ) that The Beatles arrived in New York and would soon appear on the Ed Sullivan Show. Yes and the British Invasion was on.
Britain and America are good at invasions.
--- Thanks for the post Kaynight. Yes I guess so but this was a friendly invasion, trying to improve the music.
A few posts back I mentioned Keely Smith and I must admit I don't know much about her ( I know she sang very well tho ). She did do some songs with Louis Prima ( & his Band ). Over on YouTube there is a cute clip of them all on the Ed Sullivan show doing " I've Got You Under My Skin " ( it is from 1960, yes it is still in black & white ).
Let's hear it for Louis Armstrong guys.
--- Varelse1: Thanks for the info.
Kaynight: Thanks for bringing that name forward, he was one of my favourites.
Some sad news from the world of music as Leslie Gore has passed away at age 68. Gore had a hit with " It's My Party " back in 1963. " You Don't Own Me " was another of the hits that she had out.
The other day the name of Louis Armstrong came up in this thread and I was reminded of another name, that of Billie Holiday. These two artists did several songs together and Holiday was well known in Blues Music.
Great artistes cab.
--- Thanks for the post Kaynight. Yes indeed. I've got a 1940's channel on my Satellite radio that I like because they play a lot of older Blues and Jazz music there.
Lol
Just walked up to the ticket counter, to buy some Weird Al Yankovitch tickets. Was told they were sold out already. Never thought I'd live to hear those words.

I like Weird Al, he has a lot of fun with his send-ups of the stars.
Yeah, but Weird Al Yankovitch does some "weird" songs...
like Party in the C.I.A.
(a better dental plan than the F.B.I.???? Huh?)

--- Thanks for the post Fltsrymy. Of course not everything that he does is going to be funny but he seems to make a good living with his " silly songs ".
I know everyone keeps saying Nirvana was the greattest of the Seattle bands. But for my money, it's Alice-in-Chains.
Everyone?
Growing up in Chicago we heard most of it, and if Nirvana was your fave, fine. Alice in Chains? Fine.
There seemed to be a deluge of great music then, and most of them played near me. We just took it all in.
Let me rephrase.
Nearly everyone who in those days sort of liked Nirvana, these days claims they were Nirvanas #1 fan back then.
