- Aliens
- Shaun of the Dead
- Being John Malkovich
- Gattaca
- Pulp Fiction
My own picks would have to include
Rashomon
The Seventh Seal
Pan's Labrynth
Blade Runner
Pulp Fiction
Along with numerous other movies that I either a: don't remember and/or desperately need to rewatch or c: desperately need to see (Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, etc).
I think your picks are pretty damn worthy, Gambitknight
My friend asks that I post her picks. Since she does play chess(a criteria), I said I would:
The Piano
Sense and Sensibility
Doctor Zhivago
Gone with the Wind
Casablanca
From a list I did a long time ago:
Fight Club
The Shawshank Redemption
Das Boot
L.A. Confidential
The Princess Bride
Monty Python movies are gems, for sure.
But not Kevin Smith?
I like Clerks and Chasing Amy, but must admit that they don't wear well. On the other hand I could spend a weekend every year watching the Godfather series. My list, though, hmmm. Hard to say.
Certainly:
Battleship Potemkin
Rashomon
Dead Man
The Usual Suspects
Nice list, Ziryab. About Kevin Smith films...I prefer Monty Python
Everyone who participated so far has outstanding Films so far.I like the Godfather series very very well too. Now,I have a lot of very good movies to watch now with very good suggestions by all of you very good people.
All of Kevin Smith movies have a least 1 reference to one of his movies. If you watch 2 of his movies. You will see 1 particular scene that connect or related by that 1 particular scene or dialouge or something like that in common.
I think that is very funny.

Thank you again, paatalogic. I don't like many American films, though. I hated "Forest Gump". The last great American film that I saw was probably "Memento".
But "Forest Gump" not so bad movie :)
"Memento" i do not know , must see , thanks for recommendation :)
I must find now fragments at YouTube .

I found Forest Gump nauseating. But there are plenty of good American films; they are usually unpopular (which in America means, lightly advertised). In the past few weeks I saw three new American films. The Road was excellent, but the only movie house in my city that had it somehow left it off the big board at the ticket counter. There were two dozen people in the audience. The day before (Christmas), Sherlock Holmes was packed (we were there) and Avatar was sold out (we saw it a week later). I enjoyed all three films, but two years from now probably will remember only The Road--by far the best of the three.
Crash is good. I like Magnolia and Coffee and Cigarettes. All American films from the past decade.
This afternoon, some friends and I had a lively two-hour argument about the greatest films of all-time. It was quite an enjoyable time. I am curious how some of the analytical minds on this site would respond to this question. Of course people need not feel being stuck with their list, as people mature, and change their minds about such lists. As well as people see films every day that they had not seen before, therefore: What do you think are the greatest films you have seen?
Mine in no particular order:
La Notte
Aguirre: Wrath of God
Early Spring
Mouchette
A Woman in the Dunes
