The Last Essay:Remade (goodbye)

Yesterday and today were the third and fourth days where I didn’t go on otf when I could have. In over a year. I thought a lot and, I’ve finally realised that although the opinions I expressed in the first thread were correct, they weren’t all addressed. Whilst I haven’t really left. I’m trying, and I most likely won’t comment on otf for a while. Or ever. But now, it’s time to reveal the complete complaint list. Opinion fact and others.
Fact:
Too many new otfers. I don’t mind the new faces, but the longer I’ve been on here, the more I realise I know like 10% of the people here, and they mainly OGs. Whether it’s them changing names or accounts, the faces aren’t the ones I want, and it ruins the community vibe for me (just me, or maybe others, I don’t know)
My threads are ignored. It’s fact, no one can say anything but that they are ignored. I’d think after a successful career that my leaving thread might result in a little more than 15 comments, but you know what, I’ve made many leaving threads. But I haven’t made many others, and I put effort into thinking them up. It’s unfair for forums like the ‘crush forum’ and to get 700 comments for a 1 min intro of some guy wanting fame and a girlfriend in cc. Meanwhile, the thread I poured LITERAL 10s OF HOURS INTO GETS 142. In the end, I don’t think many care about what I say, because it doesn’t matter to them. (More in opinion section)
Opinion:
Too many ‘bad’ threads. It’s mostly nonsense nowadays. With otf being filled more and more with young people with egos the size of the sun, and spamming random things, it’s annoying. All the dating, threads everything. No one spends time thinking of a good idea, they just think of mediocre quick ones to hopefully gain fame. But there are good threads, but bad converses:
Only your opinion. I didn’t see it much before, but in a month, I experienced 2 of these. Let’s take the tau thread, the main arguer doesn’t listen to anyone else. It’s their own point of view the expect everyone to adapt. There is no hate, but ‘it makes math more beautiful’ is just not a good reason. So you only saying the few bland things against the same few bland arguments, it kind of ruins the one good conversation I had.
Bad people. Some people simply just annoy. I’ve had enough of people creating arguments, and then peace out without any points, and a thread that blocked good ones from being shown. Not to mention the multiple people who continue to annoy me. All I see in otf is the 90% I don’t know, being annoying. It’s opinion, and I haven’t gotten to know them. I’m of the few who think arguments fuel otf, but people arguing they don’t spam, and everything, just is kind of sad when they are actually hurt.
No one cares about what I do. Let’s be honest, these 13 year olds who don’t know me won’t care about history of something they’ve been on for a month, or some of my ideas. If you look at my recent threads, most of them are below 20, and a lot below 10 comments. Maybe a few aren’t fully in link with me, but shouldn’t 13 year olds care about something that isn’t actually requiring more than 5 brain cells to compute in their brains.

In the end, I’m going, and I might not come back. There is only one certainty. If I do come back, it will not be on this account. It is cursed. I’m not bumping this thread, because no one will comment if I do anyway. Goodbye to my friends, old and new. Bye to all my rivals, good and bad. It was nice knowing you and learning about this community.

It sounds like you're thinking too much about the bad.

The reason we stay on OTF is for the little bit of good. There's always going to be spam, annoying users, and uncreative threads. But if you look hard enough, you'll find fun threads that people work hard on, fun users to be your friend, and more.

Bottom line: You shouldn't focus on all of the bad on OTF. If we did that, most of us would be long gone by now.

Understandable. But the system under which OTF operates itself doesn’t support your threads. It rewards chains of posts being made fast, resulting in low post quality. Your essays basically make people feel they have to respond with a large enough paragraph and read through the entire thing. On other social media platforms, your threads would get many posts because there are many active users. Here, there aren’t many and most want to catch up with people and talk. Unless you find people who will consistently respond, your threads will continue dying.

I get the one about the Tau thread. Crystal repeatedly states the same stale points. After the thread got a certain number of posts, Crystal was essentially given a choice. Continue repeatedly arguing and risk looking repetitive, or stop and risk looking non-committal? The outcome was largely determined from the start, because of loss aversion.

In the end though, I just explained the phenomena you observed. From one essay writer to another, goodbye.

Dang…you need more attention Balvi. You don’t get the attention you need. There may be a bit of trolls, bad threads and some people that you think are…distasteful. But there are good things about OTF too! Great OTFers, people who help each other, and good threads. There’s more to OTF than just the normal threads. It’s about the people inside that build OTF up.

Taking stuff from Basix, there are a lot of good things about OTF.

There are also bad things, but they can be ignored quickly, and you can carry on. OTF is about having fun talking to others, expressing feelings and overall getting friends.

…welp i need to sleep-

“So I was writing a paper. On the PC. And then it was like, ‘Bebeep beep beep beep beep!’ and like half my paper was gone. It was a really good paper. And then I had to write it over, and I had to do it fast, so it wasn’t as good. It was really… a bummer”. - Ellen Feiss (briefly famous early 2000’s It Girl).
