I had the same thoughts but they said they're bringing it back to it's roots so I have hope :)

Old Star Trek fans are red shirts - a dying breed.
They're appealing to the new generation. That's my take, anyway ...
Was that red shirt security officer from the Gorn episode? On Cestus III?
"Arena" (with the Gorn) and "Doomsday Machine" were two of the best episodes in TOS
I have been hearing about a new Star Trek series for a couple of years. Honestly, based on what I've seen with the last two movies, I'm not excited about it. The people at CBS/Paramount just do not know how to make real Star Trek. It's like they want to cater to the "Fast and Furious" crowd; make a movie that is driven by eye-candy and no substance. Are they afraid that the Trek fan base is not intelligent enough for what the old Star Trek (TOS, TNG, etc.) used to be? Or is this simply the best THEY can do?
