The missing plane

@NormadicKnight;  Wow, I didn't think of your last part, imploding when it went deep enought. You could be right. They need those black boxes, pinging or not.

This is the damdest mystery.  Which way are you leaning, pilot suicide??

I got nothing. I'm stumped. The one question that comes to mind is when the plane made that 180 degree turn; Why didn't an attentive Malaysian Air traffic controler chime in with a question?? Like why the deviation from flight path. Maybe everyone was dead at that point. I don't know.

Its Saterday at noon 4/5/14, and China may have something. CNN is reporting debris AND a ping.

Avatar of BishopTARDIS

if the ping doesn't' pan out I agree they probably won't find anything until something washes ashore.

Now its noon Sunday. It looks hopeful because 3 ships have "pings" now.

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

Yeah I heard that theory now. They say he was "skirting" radar. The last handshake was a "partial". My guess is THAT'S where it hit the water. It can't be too far from that point. The handshake could of happened, just as it was running out of gas.

Good news. They've got confirmation on a ping. As of 1 am EST, Mon mourning from CNN. It may still take a week to bring the boxes to the surface. But what a stroke of luck. A shot in the dark. To get those boxes up before winter arrives, BRAVO. Once they get it up, it might take 4-5 months for the FAA to analyse the data, and every country will have to confirm or concur on the interpretation. Te secrets those boxes hold will determine the outcome of all those lawsuits lining up. That's amazing. From nothing to go on, they found it. I bet DOD is getting nervous now. Makes you wonder what king of technology the Chinese are using for radar and sonar. It took 70 yrs to find the Titanic. We've got 5 options. Pilot error; Pilot suicide; Machanical malfunction; criminal act; or terrorist act. I'd be an idiot to guess, but I'll bet IT was ONE of those 5. At least the families will get partial closure now, and more closure when the final report comes out. Should we keep this thread going, or start a new one when the FAA or Malasia makes an announcement??

My understanding is that Officials won't confirm this is it until they either have a picture or have the box(es) in hand.  Still this does sound promising, so did the satellite pictures, so I'm very cautiously optimistic that they might have found the haystack...now onto finding the needle.

The Chinese picked up 2 pings. I just assumed 1 was the flight data recorder, and the other was the cockpit voice recorder. I know it was simple technology, but I believe in miracles. I can't explain why the 2 pings are Soooo far apart from each other,(300 knots). Also, officials are cautiously optamistic without 100% confirmation.  Give me a break, if the signal matches the frequency, what else could it possibly be??

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

CNN was just talking about that, "skirting manuever" around radar. Before 9-11, nobody really cared where a large plane was. Post 9-11, the moment a plane moves out of the flight path, it becomes a national emergency.

No new sounds since Sunday...could mean the batteries died or it was a false lead. This has to be frustrating for the searchers and families of all aboard.

CNN is reporting on their site that more, but fainter pings have been heard in the search area.

I agree 100%.  What's that British submarine doing. Maybe I'm ignorant, but I would think their sonar would give them something that you can't get from surface ships.     I'm also amazed at the stupidity of some people. CNN talked about;  Aliens took it;  Its in the Bermuda Triangle, and my favorite-- It landed on Diego Garcia.

Hey; Its midnight, and I'm watching Anderson Cooper on CNN. He said, if you go to,  MarineTraffic.com, they will show you in real time the position of the ships searching, if your interested.

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

Its now noon Thrus, and the search area is down to 22,000 square miles. I know that sounds like a lot, but when you consider that a month ago, it was over 100,000 square miles, we're making progress. The only one who's NOT making progress is Malasian Airlines. I wish they would shut up. Every time they open their mouth, its nonsence. The're pretty much trying to cover their ass at this stage. Maybe the're's more here than meets the eye. I'm just in awe over the recovery effort. I equate it to the moon landing of 1969. A lot of good, smart, hard working people doing a very tough job. God bless em. Radar points on the southern arc, gas calculations, satelite photoes, debris points, pings, quite a chess match. Yesterday we had that stabbing at a high school in Pennsylvania. I guess that's one kid who won't be going to the prom this year.  The body count for the Washington State Landslide is up to 36 with 10 still reported missing. Another job that I don't think I could do.

I checked out this site . I was surprised at how few ships are in the area. Plus I didn't realize that their is a small secondary search area. I assume the smaller area is where that Chinese ship heard pings.

Avatar of BishopTARDIS

okay second attempt to post this.. they appear to have heard a fifth ping. Which means they may have enough info to send down a sonar sub.

What's a jetliner cost these days?  Is a crash a tax write-off?  What's the bottom line for the share holders?
