So they tell us to keep working hard and you’ll be rich someday. Sounds like one big scam to me. The problem is, the entire world population just can’t fit in that tiny 1% club.

For many people that's not true.
I think it’s true as long as the hard work is targeted in lucrative fields where you can provide the most value to people (i.e. engineering, medicine, computer science, etc.), but it’s also entirely possible to be rich without without necessarily being in the 1% with frugal living, intentional retirement saving, and most importantly not squandering your time on chess forums like me
