The one I (nearly) lost sleep over was this POS who beat me... I can't give details or it might reveal my name... let's just say in the same way that "13 year old female" leads to certain assumptions, he had things associated with him that'd make non-players think he was a genius.

But I was pissed because he was clearly worse than me.

Hillary in 2016:  "How could I lose to this idiot!!"

Trump in 2020:  "How could I lose to this idiot!!"

Unlike Trump, I won the rematch wink.png

(and a few casual games in between)

He was legitimately worse than me.

Well it seems the current directive is to allow nearly every type of thread/posting other than cheating and to simply move a) non-chess  b) uncomfortable topics to the Toxic Dump Site formerly known as Off Topic where they will no longer be monitored (id est, moderated).

I don't know what else to say on this matter, especially realizing the so-called powers-that-be have employed the classic Head-in-the-Sand tactic,  other than that the volunteers need to change their title from "moderators" to "lackeys."

If it wasnt for my free diamond membership i wouldnt even be here.

Really? I would've thought the prices went down after Nixon was there.

It does look like a beautiful place where they're holding the G7 summit.

I wonder if anybody suggested they hold the it at Mar-a-Lago?

Nobody really cares about the Biden stuff. There's a party atmosphere over here. Great weather, a tournament going on, attitudes with Covid lightening, barbeques, etc.

I watched him meet the queen. He looked utterly confused, and someone pointed out to me that his wife seems to be his carer. Not noticed that before. The most casual of Englishmen are bemused with him. Anyone on the level already knows what he is. It's quite funny. The more he is kept off TV, the better it is for his supporters (all 10 of them).

England is absolutely stunning in general. I don't take where I live lightly, and have friends from school around the planet who have offered me a very easy start otherwise. Wales isn't bad neither. I used to climb around old castles where my dad took me as a kid (my dad was born in Cardiff; I have a Welsh family surname). The history is absolutely mind-boggling.

I have family in Scotland, been there a few times, but generally make excuses not to travel there as an adult lol. Enough said.

You need to Google Google I guess wink.png.

By the way, in case that seems too conceited, there's an easy check... ask yourself whether there are any adult players with a title who post in the forums.

There are plenty of adults, and there are a few titled players... but (currently) no adult titled players.

I'm not titled (and I'm not good enough to be titled) but I'm just saying... the forums are not appealing to a certain demographic. People like Clifton, Ozzy, Reb, nobodyreally and Pfren posted infrequently at first, and now not at all.

Reb posts right-wing nonsense daily in The Ideas Room. I’d rather see him posting something he understands: chess.

You need to Google Google I guess .

https://www.google.com/search/howsearchworks/crawling-indexing/

I remember when I first started making websites around 1996, I had to submit the pages to the various available search engines (there were actually sites that purported to do it for you, saving you from going from search engine to search engine) and about 3 months later, if at all, the site would get crawled.  Most of us belonged to different Web Rings to try to get noticed.

What I'm writing now will show up in Google in about 10 minutes.

Personally, I wouldn't call that a religious discussion but a historical one.

A few years ago I had historical comments about religion deleted. On the other hand, I also had a squabble with a Creationist who ended up challenging me to a correspondence game. He played 100% engine moves, but was clean enough in other games that he remained on the site another six months.

gee, i didn't see "being a role model" in tos.

when kids state things as facts that are clearly wrong, my derision is warranted.

that's what i have seen, and that was my example-a kid telling you ww1 didn't happen. in a few of the groups here i have provided numerous sources of information to little effect, including to adults. in my time here it appears many youngsters are indoctrinated to believe, regurgitating what their parents say or what friends told them instead of doing their due diligence-even when presented with facts.

Now you are describing The Ideas Room, and their most active members, to a t.

BTW, Rest in peace Patrick Sky (1940-May 26, 2021) He was part of the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 60s. Played with many of the musicians of that period, including Richard Farina, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and even Mississippi John Hurt. Saw him in a concert at the Folklore Center in NYC back then. The guy told the funniest stories! Good-bye, Pat.

That’s sad. I had his Songs that Made America Famous on vinyl for many years until I sold all my vinyl.

You kept publishing gay sex in the ideas room iirc.

I think you thought you were "sticking it to the right-wingers", when you just came across as gay tbh.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's 2021.

It's quite funny how people whine about quite basic unmoderated informal chit-chat.

Let's face it; you want the guy censored for having a different opinion. That's how you deal with things. And these forums become even more boring; lack even more variety.

Join Al's group where everyone agrees with you, and you won't have a cry.

I have brought that up with staff, and some agree with me, but they have said that Erik does not want to do anything that will hurt membership.

what about those that blog a lot, like batgirl and blackfirestorm?

what about those that are admins in groups?

in a post after this one, you mentioned the site is about quantity, and i believe this to be true. we can only guess at the revenue brought in through advertising, but it is probably based purely on the numbers, and your suggestion would, i think, drastically reduce membership.

free speech only works correctly if you allow the speech you don't like. even with that, there are limitations. and, with this being a privately owned site, free speech doesn't matter so much.

in "al's group" there is agreement on some things, yes. trump a liar? check. paid off a pornstar? check.

if you care to debate policy, you will find some fine minds there. many members are well-equipped to handle any type of debate because they read a lot and know some history.

In all fairness to Al's group, I don't have experience of it.

Saw you promoting it, and referring to the way that it was promoted. Seemed somewhat confrontational: "if you've got the scrotum to join my club!", etc.

Don't exactly need to be bloody Mystic Meg to sense a bit of bias.

Strangemover

The reference to Mystic Meg may be lost on those not playing the British National Lottery in the 1990's...
