Under the civilised veneer of society there is always a seething mass of discontent and bitterness waiting the oppotunity to burst out. That is the reason for the police; it is why we have to control society keep it inline. Sometimes the army may be needed if thing get really wild. In the Gordon riots 265 people were shot dead by the army.
The riots here (well, in England - there haven't been any in Scotland yet) are young people running amok, looting, vandalizing and setting fire to cars and property. It's all about causing trouble for the sake of it and having a 'good time' (albeit a sick-minded idea of one - why aren't they playing chess??). It is simple lawlessness. Rioting may originally have started as a result of a protest against the police shooting of Mark Duggan in Tottenham, but what followed is just a mindless naughtyfest.
This needs to be contained & fast before the Olympics change venues.The whole world is watching this mindless self distruction.

But at least the Vancouver riots were about something important.
Richard dawkins is a genius.
The riots have been caused on purpose, for the reason of bringing in martial law, not only that the government is waiting for you to ask for it. A recent poll showed that 33% of people that voted were up for the use of live ammunition while over 75% advocate bringing in the army.
As for mark duggan it has now been proven that he did not fire a shot and was therefore unjustly murdered by the police, regardless of what he may or may not have been guilty of.
I am not at all proud to be british, i do not represent my country and my country does not represent me, my heart goes out to all the innocent victims and independant businesses that have lost so much in this but ive known this was coming for a long time now and now it has come i fear it may become uncontrollable and escalate to warlike proportions, the oppression from the government and police gas caused huge discontentment of "their own" people and this was always a matter of when not if, the worrying thing is that there appears to me an endless amount of idiots involved that are either do not care or are unable to think about the consequences of their actions and seem willing to go to jail for stealing frozen pizza at the lowest extreme or for ultimately killing innocents at its at its highest.

The police are there to keep those without seperate from those who have, this has always been the case, which was fine to a point, when they started dressing like the terminator it became almost impossible that they would abuse their position. You couldnt imagine being harassed by a swiss guard could you?

As a proud member of the uk i hope this stupid riots stop soon so more inoccent people dont get hurt or killed . Yes im proud to be british/Welsh but i am deeply ashamed of the way some people are acting at the moment here.
my thoughts are with the inoccent victims caught up in this mess and for there losses in some circumstances i hope the people behind and involved in this stupid act get caught or pay for what they have done as everything come full circle in this life.
