The very moment I first started becoming a liberal

I was maybe 14-15 and my grandma wanted to go into New Orleans to a certain upscale department store. But we heard that the biggest movie theater in town was having a sit in as they weren't allowed in. I told her that Canal street has a wide lane in the middle for the street cars and a lane on each side. And that any problems would be contained on the far side of the street from us. But the police showed up and started threatening the peaceful sitting protestors with vicious police dogs. And the fire department was spraying them down with a fire hose. And in minutes it turned into a riot. We had just started going into the store and several black guys ran past us and were pushing things off the counters etc. I told grandma that we needed to get out of there right away. When we went out side 20-30 something year old black guys were jumping up and down on the roofs of the cars caving them in. I begged one guy to please not destroy my grandma's car. He looked at the little kid and his grandma and said " kid get you and your grandma out of here I can't hold them off long". He had turned from a rioter to normal in the twinkling of an eye. And he was actually struggling with other black guys to protect us as we drove off. It was very impressive to a little kid and I began to see things differently.

Aeacb, You didn't get it? I was told what an awful group of people blacks were. You didn't catch the part about being raised in a Klan household? All manner of disgusting things. And you believe what your parents tell you. And unless and until you discover the truth yourself. Its the libs that take up the cause of the downtrodden, the poor, the sick, etc. And realize that the wealth of the nation is not being distributed equally. The majority of the bills of governing, paving streets, etc. is paid by the middle and lower classes on a percentage basis. And the billionaires pay little or nothing. The Republicans in Congress give as many tax breaks to the large corporations and billionaires as they can. I'll try and restate this. A mob is described as an angry animal with little humanity. But even after the brutal treatment that black guy got from the cops and fireman just because he wanted an equal chance to see the movies. He turned on a dime seeing a little kid and an old lady and defended us against his own fellow rioters. It was an impressive, water shed moment in my life.

I would recommend looking at politics more logically instead of emotionally.

This will definitely get locked. Glad you're in the fight. Most people get more conservative as they get older. I think I'm becoming more liberal. There's just too much to fight against right now.

On a brighter note, Confederacy of Dunces is a classic set in New Orleans. John Kennedy Toole won a posthumous Pulitzer for it. An excellent read, if you haven't already. I can never look at a hot dog vendor in the Quarter without erupting with laughter. I'm sure gonna miss spitting on Jackson. I heard they got rid of him.

Spent many years visiting the Big NO, which stands for Never Over, because the road goes on forever and the party never ends. Jazz Fest, Tipatinas, Cafe du Monde, Busking.... Haven't been in a years. Jazz Fest is now!

Thank you for your service to our country.

#7, liberalism isn't the word for it, it's more like realizing black people aren't any worse than us.

I do think SOMETIMES police are a little mean if you story is true but there doing there jobs trying to get traffick moving so mabye the protesters were in the way?

And what does your story have to do with being liberal?

who says all cops are conservitive and what does being sprayed with a fire hose do with being a liberal.I think you should reacess that political thoughts because your story has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with political standards.
