Hey, chess.com Community! It's me, the dude who doesn't fit in. (That doesn't matter, I just thought the truth was funny.) Lately, I've been seeing a lot of, "I'm closing my account," and such, and honestly, yeah, it's kinda sad to see people leave, but life goes on. Besides, nine out of ten times, you've never actually met the person who's leaving, and while it's true that you've developed an actual friendship with them (probably, anyway), you don't really know who they are. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm not here to criticize either the closing party or the people who are sad, I'm here to state my mind on the matter, and maybe, just maybe get there to be less drama when someone closes their account.

Why don't we start with the basics? Whenever someone posts a thread saying they're going to close their account, there's a long line of comments saying things like, "NOooooOOoOOoo dOn'T lEavE!" That's fine, you're naturally upset. The problem I have with this is some people reply and say, "There's nothing you can do to stop me. " Okay, buddy. If there's nothing I can do to stop you, then effing close the damn account. Honestly, you really begin to wonder if they even have the balls to close, and then half an hour later they finally make their decision. Like, if you wanna close, post your goodbye, state a reason why, and then close. It's that's simple. You don't have to spark a four-page (about 80ish comments) back and forth because you're not mentally prepared to do it. JUST. EFFING. DO IT!

And then there's the other side of the drama, or rather the drama that makes people close their accounts, like poor @hvenki for example. People couldn't take his sense of humor, so they all just started hating on him, forcing him to close his account out of shame. Sure, he did some stupid stuff, but I wouldn't wish an online 1v585 on my worst enemy.

To end this short little snip-teen rant, I want to say that one, it's okay to want someoen not to close their account, just don't grow overly attached to them, two, don't be a douche, and three, if you're going to close your account, make it snappy but understandable so that people at least have some closure.

Honestly, I think that you should ignore these members. By making an entire forum post about it, only increases the drama.

Fair point well made.

EamonB1

Anonymous_Dragon

Yes me

Anonymous_Dragon

I never harrassed anyone

Anonymous_Dragon

You interpret things in a different way. You felt I harrassed people lol. By that sense I should have been banned not her

Anonymous_Dragon

I called her weak. I called her a weak chess player that's it. It has nothing to do with her gender. And she did the same to me

You said she cheated. She didn't

She did. It's not just me who says that... It's many others. And high rated players. But unfortunately her account got banned for abuse too early and the cheat detection team never had any chance to check her games.
