tic tac toe or bingo?

My sister’s volleyball team has this thing where there is a 3x3 grid, and every time they complete a task (win a set, get an ace (which is when the other team doesn’t touch your serve), etc.) She calls this the team’s tic tac toe board. I call it a mini bingo board. Chess.com’s community is well known for being near all knowing, so I ask: who is right?
RealTactics960
Oops. To finish the first sentence, every time they complete a task they x out a square
BasixWhiteBoy
Tic tac toe, for sure.
RealTactics960
Also, there’s no free space in the center.

Your arguement, #3?
BasixWhiteBoy
Then why do you think it’s a bingo board, exactly?
BasixWhiteBoy
Because you have to get 3 in a row, there’s no free space, and bingo games don’t have 3x3 boards. They’re perfectly describing a tic tac toe board.
RealTactics960
But you x out a square when you complete a task. They may be using a tic tac toe sized board, but they are playing volleyball bingo (and that’s what I meant)
RealTactics960
When I said bingo board I meant they are playing bingo
BasixWhiteGirl

It's definitely tic tac toe. Why would it be bingo? Bingo boards are much bigger, right?

I-gray-I
if the squares are for certain things then it is bingo. if you can pick any square it is tic tac toe.
RealTactics960
You complete tasks to x out a square
Concerned-potato
Either one, i like them both
RealTactics960
That’s not what I meant #13
Concerned-potato
Man I should really read,😞

#11 also, there's no alternating X's and O's. So, bingo. 3x3 bingo exists, and is a lot more popular than 5x5 tic tac toe. Usually though, 3x3 bingo entails 2 straight lines for at least 5 squares.

RealTactics960
Could tou illustrate what you mean by two straight lines for five squares
xtreme2020
It’s tic tac toe if they get to choose which square they x out and bingo if it’s already set, like if you get an ace you have to x out a specific square
RealTactics960
Well, they select 9 of 15 challenges and put them in pregame.
