That's a terrible article; Lots of dubious claims and absolutely no data to support the claims. Imho, a completely worthless article.

In essence, I agree with you. The main ideas are simple, but the execution of the details can get complicated. For example, what exactly constitutes "no junk food"? Once you start listing specific food types, the conversations can get interesting.

Exercise is important, but proper diet is FAR more important than exercise. You can stand all day long, but if you're eating a lot of junk food, you WILL gain weight.
