HOAs are evil.
To IOG's French proverb:
Home owners association SS. I was on the board for years. You have the option to not buy there if you don't like it. But they do good work. They keep people from creating eye sores such as florescent paint for their exterior color. Or have that giant rusty boat parked elsewhere. Get new bark for the commons, weed wack needed areas. That kind of thing.
I agree most things in life we can't change. But there are things that can be done. In this subdivision we have several woodland paths to walk our dogs etc. But one has become little used. The hill side soaks the path in several places making it too gooey to get through. The HOA doesn't feel like they can do anything. Gravel it was said would just moosh down and not help. I got a work party together and we chopped out the blackberry vines that had intruded. And I got people to round up wooden pallets. Those won't sink down. And now the path is usable again. We can get small, worthwhile things done if we just organize.
