Turning off chat.

I was just reading a forum post where someone was angry that other players turn of chat. Sorry folks, I always have chat off. I didn't use to, but I kept running into people who use chat to be verbally abusive in the hopes of distracting you from the game. A lot of times that did work. They would get under my skin.

That really takes away a lot of the pleasure of playing this game. Another type I have run into is men who pretend to be women and they attempt to flirt with you. Really perverse.

So I decided to leave chat off.

So before you get mad at a person for having chat off think about what he is maybe trying to avoid.

Not so, my chat is turned off.

Sounds like the OP needs to stop playing against A_L_I_V_E.... 

try for the last year and a half.

some people can see the distinction between chatting In a forum and chatting during a live game. I guess you can't. Other people can also distinguish between chat and verbal abuse. But, I guess that is also lost on you.

Maybe you missed out on the past several months, but "A_L_I_V_E" was this guy claiming to be a woman, using Megan Fox's (aka Toe Thumbs) celebrity photos in his profile trying to pass them off as his own, who very vocally declared he is "the best female chess player on chess.com", and loved to talk down to everyone who disagreed in any way with him and his inflated ego. He apparently finally got muted on the forums. If you weren't around for that whole mess that guy created with his imaginary character and giant ego, you missed out on a lot of funny stuff.

Your original post made me think back to that guy and his antics, with you mentioning men pretending to be women.
