I agree, but would add a 3rd thing - Stupid threads where people post seemingly random collections of 3 words that add up to a load of baloney.

Well it is stipulated that religion and politics should be avoided in off topic discussion here on chess.com. A rule I like and part of the reason why the atmosphere is so great here IMO.
I was taught not to get into jail nor dept....one out of two is ok I reckon .
I don't see why you personally can't just avoid a thread about religion or politics rather than banning them for everyone. How about a new subsection for them?
On chess servers, if these topics are allowed to run rampent, sometimes off topic forums can become dominated by religon and politics. These two discussion points are also the ones most likely to inspire great emotion in people and this can sometimes reflect in their comments.
