Using only two 2s and any mathematical symbols, make 5. NO TRICKS

Think of a number below 10...
Double it...
Add 6...
Divide by 2...
Take away the number you originally thought...
Answer is...3

If you cubed 2, you would get 8. That uses 2 once.
From statistics, I believe there is a symbol used to sum all of the digits below and including a number. For example 4 with this symbol would be 1+2+3+4=10.
So, using this symbol from statistics (I don't recall the symbol) with 2 (used a second time, now) and subtracting from the first 2 cubed, the result after the mathematical application of the symbols would be 8-3=5. (The cube symbol is a 3; however, in this context it is not a number, it is a math symbol).

u can't use any other numbers. Only 2s and exactly two 2s.
