I’m not sure if it’s my stereotypical American (🇺🇸) ignorance, but why does the uk have a flag and the countries in the uk (which has a flag already) have their own flags???

Let me clarify, England has a flag (🏴) but England is in the United Kingdom which also has a flag (🇬🇧) why does 2 flags apply to each country in the uk?

The UK flag is like a last name
Different countries (family members) have there own flags (first names) but still belong to one family (one last name)
