Oh, we know that volcanoes are Mountains with a crater or craters on its top or side.
Oh, things are not so simple. Not all volcanoes are mountains and at the same time, not all mountains are volcanoes.
For example, Kilauea is not a mountain. Yellowstone, and lakes Toba and Taupo are not mounts. Taal Volcano, though sometimes called a mount, is just a hill.
So there are many types of volcanoes.
First, stratovolcanoes or composite volcanoes. They are the Normal Volcanoes or Mount Volcanoes.
Examples are Mt.St.Helens, Mt.Mayon, Vesuvius, and Mount Fuji.
Second, shield volcanoes. They are Super Long Mount Volcanoes or Super Fast Lava Flow Spewer. They are not literally mounts, such as Kilauea. Examples are Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
Third, SUPERVOLCANOES. They are superstrong volcanoes that super-erupt. Examples are Yellowstone National Park, (Actually, the whole Wyoming!), Lake Toba and Taupo.
Fourth Cinder cones. Hills made of scoria. They have their own vents, but sometimes part of their main volcano.
Fifth, fissure volcanoes, or those that appear on the surface near the foot of a MOUNT VOLCANO OR MAIN VOLCANO.
Sixth, volcanic domes. They are those that appear like domes. Examples are Lassen Peak(Lava Dome) and bulge before the 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens (Cryptodomes).
Seventh, calderas. These are commonly found in extinct or dormant volcanoes after a major eruption, such as the caldera in Aso, Japan.
