SERVICIOUS:

Thanks so much, that was the problem I was having.

I am never too old to learn a new thing.

I was around when Rock and Roll started in the 50's and I used to play the piano and tried to sing like Fats Domino, Little Richard, and all the do wop groups.

I had a group called "The Shades" all five of us wore sunglasses as we sang and I sang and banged on the piano.

The group folded when we were supposed to audition for a TV spots on a show and three of the singers didn't show up. I was thers and so was the lead singer. When I started to play the lead singer was stiff as a board I was scared that I would mess up the piano parts. But when I started to play the piano soon it was a piece of cake just like ringing a bell. The lead singer sang scared to death. He hit the notes but there was no feeling to them. The whole audience started clapping with the rhythm of the piano beat.

We were not chosen for the show. We were chewed out.  The song we played only called for the lead singer and me playing the piano without singing. But the Union member waiting in the wings  had to play the piano because I did not sing one note. They were so angry at us.

I and the lead singer used to sing when ever we could without the rest of the group.

Johnny Mathis brother was there also singing with his group. Ralph Mathis was a friend of mine. We used to see each other at "Mel's Drive In" on Geary Street in the Richmond District.

Thanks again for your help.

This thread contains a pretty fair collection of classic rock songs: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/is-this-the-real-life

Other themes to be more prevalent in this thread, which is great... mine just happened to be more specialized. :)
