54 x 59 =
6 x 9 x (60 - 1) =
6 x 6 x 10 x (10 - 1) - 6 x 9 =
3600 - 360 - 54 =
3600 - 414=
3186

(60 - 1) x (60 - 6) =
3600 - 420 + 6 =
3186

There's no elegance to converting a decimal number to binary, doing 6-bit long multiplication and then converting back to decimal.
