IMO: If we approach this from the perspective of socially accepted human hierarchy; money, looks, and personality determines a big portion of your value and self worth. But if you live life not caring what others think of you, or if you independently create your own source or method of income, Your “ranking” on the social ladder is unimportant.

You keep doing you without looking for acceptance from someone of lower or higher stature, be competitive so that you keep improving, but don’t lose your sense of value simply because someone is richer or better than you at a certain thing. So, in a way, money defines value depending on how you perceive life, you can be subjected to the ‘more money = more value’ mindset or you can ignore everyone sitting above you on the hierarchy ladder.

The second option allows you a bit more freedom in life, and gives you the opportunity to create and modify your own paths to a higher extent. It’s more of an entrepreneurial path, but as an entrepreneur, your ranking does begin to matter. Basically, just begin by valuing yourself highly (ignoring other people’s opinions) and when that is successful, decide whether or not you want to participate in this ‘social hierarchy ladder’.
