Exactly! I've learnt over my life more from Youtube than I ever could've from school. Call me a lunatic, or a conspiracy theorist, but in my opinion, school was never there to educate you (Except grades 1-5, they're pretty important). School never taught you how to pay taxes, how to manage finances, it taught you useless stuff you'll never use (Unless you become a mathematician or a scientist for some reason) //I had a teacher who taught about taxes b4 she came to my school, and guess what? NOBODY LISTENED BECAUSE NOBODY WANTS TO LEARN ABOUT TAXES. , and in the midst of doing that, it also sucked out ALL of your creativity, leaving you without a personality and a clone of your classmate's intellectual. School is designed to make you a factory worker.// I can't argue against this. it is a real problem. Ask John D. Rockefeller, America's first billionaire and a massive provider to the American education system: "I don't want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers". They build compliance in you, never make you question the ones in authority. Have you ever thought of that? // There are some things that should be taught at home as well
What is the point of school? :/
My guidance counselor hacked into my cc account and after that, I felt depressed and genuinely depressed and having thoughts I shouldn’t for the first time in my life :/
but school still teaches you how to think how to process memorize and regurgitate large amounts of information how to manage time, and some classes are useful like basic math, financial classes, economics classes, and driving classes. ofc some classes are only useful for ppl going into a certain field and ofc you’ll probably end up using 2% of the actual information you’re taught in school, but it’s still valuable. otherwise society would become stupid and 100% dependent on ai and stuff like that
Hm you all have intriging perspectives i personally think school is important but also needs to be improved because yea they do teach a lot of random stuff but only the student them selffs will have any idea what they wan't to do in life so i feel student's should have a little more choice for their clases and subjects but still be taught basic writng and stuff because google is not always right and not all tick tock experiaments are safe to do and etc . I also wish school days were shorter but unfortunatly it's not my choice in that matter . And i have also noticed that people in my area who are or were home schooled are dummer then outher students and spoiled unfortunatly . I also get it when people say they are stressed more in regular schools and they are just unluky because the problems that they usually face should be fixed by the school but arn't because of favoritism and a bit of capitalism combined
I feel like it does more harm than good tbh
Like, I feel somewhat more stressed out and depressed from school. Everyday, I see people screaming 67 and pmo. The learning system is also mid. When am I ever going to need to need to bring up a complex math formula, or say something about Egypt or whatever? Not like I'm becoming a scientist. As for the social status, its beyond awful. Sure, you get to socialize and make 'friends', but when you find out they're fake, its just painful. Why do you ban phones instead of brainrot? As the name suggests, brainrot can actually rot your brain. That goes against learning, and just degrades your brain. Why do you need to ban phones? If the teacher doesn't see theyre on their phones, they're just blind. They can just take away their phone and give it back at the end of class of whatever. They might need to address urgent situations on their phones or whatever.
Google just kinda defeats school. Need to know something? GOogle. Yes, you do need to learn words and how to navigate through Google, but your parents can just teach you some words and teach you to navigate. Its just simple words, you're not looking up complex searches with complex words.
Overall, my experience in school has just been AWFUL. My mental health as degraded so much these past years in school. Seeing my friends trying out to be fake friends, hearing dumb brainrot being screamed out, and blind teachers who target the victims and not the bullies.
I think building schools are just a huge waste of money, but there's already like thousands of schools, and teachers, so we cant just go back now or millions of people will lose their jobs, so yeah :/
Also, homeschool and virtual learning exists, and are so much better. I've never been homeschooled but virtual learning was awesome. You learn for like 2-3 hours, and its mostly stuff you can benefit from.
I don't really see the needs of going to school, and I don't really see many pros of school.
I think it's just a waste of time since you have school for 180 days learning for 7 hours a day, and only having like 180 other days in free time, but you have homework so yeah :/
The American school system is just bad in general, it's really not a surprise \
more relevant things you'll learn in college (especially: you'll make better friends). I skimmed through the first few paragraphs, and just letting you know that math is one of the most important subjects you'll need (depending on your major, I'm saying this because I want to do engineering). Yes, the phone ban is dumb. And for friends, that's not the school's fault; it's just a part of life and a learning experience. Friends come and go anyway.
Google and AI "defeating the purpose of school" is just a dumb argument. AI and all this is just a tool. You can either use it to explain something that's a hard concept, or you can use it to do your homework - again, I have stuff to back up this claim. Cheating in computer science is way too easy - VSCode does all our labs. But it's up to me to understand everything for the test. I also recently visited my cousin in India, who is a sophomore doing software engineering, and she said chatgpt has helped her a lot with explaining concepts. The argument that "other people are using it and are getting good grades" is a dumb one - measure your own progress, not that of others
It's also bold of you to assume parents are always there and willing to help their children...
My experience through high school is the same; my mental health has gotten to an awful state, but it's helped me discover a lot of beautiful things. Just ignore the dumb stuff and focus on improving yourself. Actual friends will recognize your boundaries, appreciate who you are, and will actually help you
i asked my math teacher why we need to learn finite systems and slope and he litterally said we're not gonna use most of the stuff we learn at school ;-;

Yeah because basic algebra doesn’t have real world applications
Google can help teach us stuff
and so can parents tbh // I hope you know that if there was never school, people would've never known
if you have a mom who just stays at home and stuff ye
