When you scroll through algorithmic content
What happens in a world where engagement is valued more than anything else? What happens in a world where virtue and the good of all matters more than anything else? What happens in a world where either of these ideas are taken to their extreme? We are witness to one currently.
You can simply describe the world and feel hopeless, or you can imagine what could be. Everything we witness in society is created by humans and can be transformed by humans. What would a world look like where AI is tasked to understand the cultural impact of what it is doing first and foremost above the financial impact of what it is doing? Money... big numbers.. min maxing the stats. These things are a scam
algorithmic content is going to bring the fourth industrial revolution upon us stop doomscrolling youtube and tiktok and instagram stop talking to your clanker boyfriend and/or girlfriend
The narrative is "look how much value these AI models produce" when the reality is that their biggest product is hacking our psychology and exploiting our attention span to feed us garbage content that triggers some raw primal emotions we struggle to resist.
1. I wanted this. I’m not satisfied, though. I want more.
2. Doesn’t seem dystopian to me. A literal personal assistant doesn’t seem bad at all. And yeah, I want the best for our species, since if my species is in free fall there isn’t much I can do to fly.
3. There is no dichotomy. The reason humans are not extinct is the development of tools.
4. Yeah, a minority of tech bros decided to progress ahead. That’s because they owned the tech companies, so only they could take the decision. Seems fairly normal to me.
5. There is no “IT”. That’s the overarching antagonist of “A Wrinkle in Time”, a science fantasy novel.
6. No, they would not sell out their race for a dopamine hit. They don’t work for dopamine hits. They work so they can do what they want.
7. No, my input wasn’t considered, and it ought not to be considered because I don’t own shares in any company. And no, there shouldn’t be a majority vote. The majority of people didn’t succeed in business, or computer science or anything for that matter. The majority of people are unsuccessful, and therefore unqualified to make judgements on a decision like this.
8. JREG may not know this, but if an institution is built solely because of suffering and its replacement is better at doing what the institution was supposed to do, you choose the replacement. That’s why you can amend the constitution. And if tens of thousands of years of work can be done better in a single year, you move ahead, not look back.
9. So, JREG hates people with high IQ and thinks they’re retards because the technologists correctly suppose they’re smarter than the general population? And logic is logic. Logic can used against someone no matter what their IQ is. And nobody uses IQ to measure people’s worth.
10. Smart people are not exclusively miserable and have their own worries. And yeah, being smart can help you a lot and make you better than other people. And where’d he get the stat about 50% of smart people being ****? Even if that’s true, and you assume 1 in every hundred people is actually smart, why does 0.5% of humanity outperform 99%?
11. “I know that up here in my IQ.”
That’s not how cognitive processing works. IQ measures intelligence in a limited way. Intelligence isn’t just IQ. IQ is a measure. I think you might need to tell JREG that.
Just to be clear, I don’t disagree with the OP’s premise. The algorithms of social media sites are made to hack our psychology and they’re doing it pretty well.
#16 I didn't talk about adult diapers.
You must have said poop or sht or something and AI wanted to solve any potential problem
