Heh, I guess people like the mystique commonly associated with Tesla. I think some claimed / associated inventions that capture people's imaginations are his death ray and IIRC something about transferring energy without cords using microwaves or something. Things even today we think of as science fiction (or... we can do them but it's not practical outside of a laboratory).
I agree Newton was a genius among geniuses... but thinking up calculus faster than most people can learn it at school doesn't quite capture the imagination as much as energy weapons I'm afraid 
People! Come on! Tesla is leading the votes. Seriously? I am completely outraged that this is the case. For those of you that don't know Sir Isaac Newton was an absolute genious, complete, 100%, he invented, I repeat he
"i n v e nt e d" a whole area of Mathematics called Calculus, and if that does not mean anything to you then, hear this, he created, I repeat, "c r e a t e d", the fundamental law of classical dynamics in Physics, among other things. Come on people! Anyways my list is: Newton, Edison, Galileo, and Tesla. Cheers.
