Why are there yellow squares in online chess?

If you are using iPad like my, play and use the tactics trainer in the app, read the forums, send message and so on with the browser

Then the high lightet squares don't bother you

The new highlighted square looked fine to me (was this suppose to be part of the new changed ?) previously a few member were complaining how they don't like the full highlighted square.

Well if it's new policy just make it a preferences setting. Last moves: outline or full.

I like the old. Now they just need live 960!

The yellow outline is on  TT and I find it very distracting.

I think this is development towards blinking neon signs around last move.

Just where did this decision come from? 

Of course I know it had to be Staff but what I really mean is what rationale brought this into being.  I'll admit; I'm an old guy that doesn't like change of any kind.  But honestly, what was going on in the planning room that day? 

  "Dude!  Yellow is cool!  It's way cooler than...  what was that other color?  Doooood!  Huh?

Yes, the square is not full anymore. However, it's only true for Online Chess. At the moment I am playing a slow 15+10 tourney, but everything is "old" here.

Yes. Turn based is same.

In turn based anyway my opponent's move is yellow (might have been like that before, although it seems different -- maybe a different shade of yellow?) and when I'm about to make a move it highlights mine in yellow as well, but at the same time still has my opponent's last move highlighted. So there is lots of yellow on the board. I dislike it quite a bit. For me the squares are full however.

There is no app for a nook and I can't move a piece except now and then off the board.

I still can't move on my iPad , how long will it take to fix it?

The majority here seem to hate it. I think it's fine. No problem with the yellow highlighted squares.
