Like I keep saying, Strunk and White is the best Chess book. The doctionary, too. Oops. 😁 I used to have an English professor who would look at us in wonder and just say, "Big book, big book." Of course, sometimes it's fun to leave what the transcriber wrote.

If I'm not mistaken, the op is missing a comma after check. If I remember correctly, we learned it as being one of the FANBOYS, which are the following: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so.

I have college level spelling, most people just want to get their thoughts out quickly, and it can make people seem ‘cool.’ Hope this helps!

I suspect texting had a lot to do with the decline in spelling ability. For better or worse, a large part of my life was spent before texting existed.
