Why do you play chess?

Good evening Chess.com, Bestmom here again with a topic that is slightly laid back and an opinion based one. Why do you play chess players of this fine website? This question goes to all the staff members as well and any grandmasters or even beginners who are here. What do you enjoy about chess? What gives you the courage to come on here and challenge other players around the world? What motivated you to play this game and go into tournaments? What goals started your journey? Now though, most importantly, what do you plan on doing with your chess journey?

Please leave comments players, I love to hear the stories of many players and grandmasters :)

trysts

I've made comments many times in the forums here about why I play chess, so I'll respond to the last question.

"what do you plan on doing with your chess journey?"

Everything I do in chess the last few years has been based entirely upon this website. If this website did not exist, or if the people in this website were not nice, entertaining, and interesting, then I don't think I would have continued playing chess. So, I meet people here, we talk about chess, and I feel inspired to learn more, play more, and follow the professionals so that I have something to say. I would have probably played chess now and then at other websites, but it is this website which inspires me to play and remain interested in chess. I've completed my personal "journey" as far as I can take it in chess, but this particular website allows me to speak. I like talking, I have foundSmile

Very good trysts, very good! I am impressed with you. I come on here because I can also meet new people and play against stronger players. As you can probably tell I also like to talk myself, I have a few posts on here. I became inspired to play when I watched Searching for Bobby Fischer. That movie is one of my favorites. Anyway, feel free to play me any time. Play strong my friend :).

Back when I was in high school, and I played casual games there while on lunch break, I found it to be a lot of fun. 20 years later, I found playing against the computer all the time to be boring, probably because of the missing human element. So, remembering high school, I search for a club to play in. This is when I discovered that the club was not right for me, and it was for that exact reason why I didn't renew my USCF membership - I can go to the coffeehouse and play unrated there every Thursday night; no different than what it was in high school.

So the point I'm making here is, I believe I have found my chess journey - to play casually, and to socialize, as I do at the coffeehouse; just as it was when I first started playing in high school.

In addition to this point, I can always go to this website and practice, and go on FICS and practice there too.

Cool beans!
