Moderators don't make the rules, staff do. Also, not everyone here is an adult and it's probably over 60% of members are under 18.

ChessKid is for under-13 primarily.
Just because of anger mainly. The creator of chess.com didn’t feel like managing important arguments. That’s not to insult Erik or anything, but it’s the truth. He built this website for chess, and I’m guessing he didn’t expect OTF to take off the way it ended up taking off.

Well then what the hell is the problem? Who hadn’t heard every word and covered every topic by 15 or so. (Additionally, do parents not exercise oversight?) Why does Chess.com seem so scared of interesting conversations?
He didn’t want to have to deal with rage arguments, that’s all

Then take it down. Either live with it or shut it down. You can’t half-ass adults being able to communicate 🤷♂️
There are some things I believe that are biased of chess.com, both things they promote and things they disapprove of. However, the primary topic restrictions being religion and politics seems fair to me. People will go off on other people when they can hide behind anonymity.
It’s best the way it is right now. If you feel the need to have restricted discussion, make it join a club
I have those types of discussions on all sorts of clubs. But OTF is the place mainly just for goofing off and having fun, and that isn’t really a bad thing

The watered-down conversations of an ostensibly intellectual site sounds like a real missed opportunity.
So what, just because you’re an adult who needs to play around on a forum built for teens, everyone needs to change to your rules? Seems a little entitled if you ask me
Well, that’s how it turned out. Like it or leave. It’s not gonna shut down just because it isn’t exactly to the standards that you think would make it better

Why so hostile? It’s not about me; it’s about free conversation in general. (Are you over 18? If so, do you not find the restrictions childish and unnecessary?)
They’re a little childish (not gonna say my age but I’m old enough to be mature I promise you.) but think about it. Mature people are rare here. Even if people shifted in that direction, they wouldn’t be able to argue with you very well anyway. You’re unfortunately pretty far outside the demographic that OTF gets. Just ignore this, or go to a club if you like that kind of discussion. Even better, try to be the mature voice of reason in the more ridiculous threads like I do.
