Today Marvin Miller passed away at age 95. All of the Major league players should send a very large wreath of flowers to Miller's funeral as he was the person who got their Union off the ground ( darn shame I could never get the Knuckleball Pitch to work ). Yell

Why did you delete all your comments? Were they naughty?

Thanks for the post Trysts. This thread never did take off, possibly because most of my posts were rants about how much I hate Bud Selig. Anyway in the end I semi-retired the thread because I seem to be the only person at Chess.com who Luvs the DH ( I mean most Pitchers cannot even bunt the ball never mind get a hit ).

The long long trek thru the wilderness may at last be over for us Blue Jay Fans. Back in the early 1990s the Blu Jays made some deals that helped in winning the 1992 & 1993 World Series. In the last couple of weeks the Blue Jays have been making major deals again. Good timing as the Yankees ( and Boston too ) seem to be in a bit of a decline.

And there is rejoicing in many parts of North America because the NHL is back at last ! Plus the new agreement is going to cover 10 years ( Happy Days are here Again ! ).

Well there is good news and there is bad news. The good news is that the Grapefruit Leagues have started up again but the bad news is that Bud " The Dunce " Selig is still the MLB Pretend Commissioner.

Let me just add someting very important: GO JAYS GO !!!

To repeat: GO JAYS GO !!! & again: GO JAYS GO !!! Cool

To borrow a saying from horse racing " And They're Off ! " Yes the season has started and the Blue Jays are 1 & 3 ( against Cleveland ).

also let me add: GO JAYS GO !!!

Well after a couple of weeks of play the Blue Jays are not doing too well thus far. The Jays started their last run to the World Series in the early 1990s. Back in 1991 General Manager Pat Gillick ( once known as Stand-Pat ) made some deals to bring in Joe Carter, Roberto Alomar and Devon White ( to play RF, 2B, CF respectively ). Also the Blue Jays became the first team to get 4 Million fans thru the turnstiles. I've been watching the 1991 team highlight video to keep track of the similarities to the 2013 season.

Also in 1991 Juan Guzman came up from the minors and took over a starters job in the rotation, meanwhile John Olerud settled in over at 1st base. Plus during the season Tom Candiotti was obtained in a trade ( luv them knuckleball Pitchers ).

Now under way is the NHL series with the Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins chasing Lord Stanley's Mug. First Original 6 match-up in over 30 years ( in the finals ). Go Chicago Go !!!

Had a look at the MLB standings yesterday, it is not looking good for us in the far north ( Toronto is only 28 & 36 ). The Cubs are at 25 & 35, Houston is worse at 22 & 44 and Miami is only 19 & 46 ( let us hope for better things in 2014 ! ).

A little PS to my post of yesterday: the best MLB record as of June 13th was St.Louis at 42 & 23 followed by Boston with 41 & 26 ( Oakland and Atlanta are tied for 3rd at 39 & 27 each ).

Chicago wins the cup in 6 games ( thumbs up ).

Meanwhile getting back to Baseball I must admit that the Blue Jays were not all that good this year. Mind you in about 6 months, 1 week and a couple of days Toronto will have their opening day again and there will be no holding them back ( GO JAYS GO !!! ).

The final four in MLB for 2013 are : Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles & St.Louis.

During the last 2 weeks we have had some nice and warm chinook winds in this area which served to remind me that Spring will be here someday soon ( and so will Spring-Training ). The Pitchers and Catchers will report in about 6 weeks ?

Also let me add that this year the Toronto Blue Jays will do very well !  GO JAYS GO !!!

It's funny how those little things remind us of better days ahead. By that, I mean spring and summer. The PGA Tour kicks off it's season in January every year with two events in Hawaii. The scenery is fabulous and can (temporarily) make me forget about the sub-zero temps outside.

Good Point AlCzervik. Speaking of Hawaii I wouldn't mind some fresh Pineapple juce right now  lol.
