Just wondering because one person I know is really good at chess and is extremely smart but one person is horrible at chess and is not smart

Define 'smart'.

If you mean IQ, then there's no correlation.

If there was correlation then Einstein would have been a much better player than he was. There's influence, but it's not determinate.

Simple fact is that most people can get to 1500. It's a matter of effort not of skill.
