Yes. Back in the 19th century.
The world has a better grasp on concepts like human rights now, and today that, slave labor, would be considered exploitation.

Plants aren’t sapient, at least from a scientific standpoint.
I’m not vegan, though I do feel bad whenever I consume meat. You might call me: “vegan-in-spirit”, haha.
