We went from using our feet to riding horses, to the wagon and the train, back to the horse again, and finally to cars as the primary method of transportation. What is the next logical step in the evolution of personal transportation?

Probably not anytime soon. What could possibly replace cars in the near future?

The shoelace express, going by the trend in the prices of cars and gas

When so much modern military equipment has been destroyed, and roads have been destroyed, there are then not even enough horses to field cavalry. Conscripts of the invaders trot up to the front lines on donkeys to fight on foot. Donkey dragoons.

We will ride wild hogs through the streets like savages

We're going to make everything closer and closer together, until the point where taking anything but foot is inefficient. We're going to make a ecosystem where maneuverability trumps speed, due to the shortened distances.

I'll be a little more serious

I think that in the future, we'll probably have different sectors where different modes of transportation are more efficient or make more sense to use.

I don't think cars will go completely obsolete, but their use will probably diminish pretty significantly. But that's just me speculating.

Cars will probably become a luxury item that only the wealthy can afford in the not-to-distant future. That may be why Tesla created an armored vehicle to showcase as their next big thing.

If you look at the long term, things always become obsolete. They probably won’t be replaced in the near future, though.

Fair point, but I still don't fully agree. I definitely think their usage will diminish over time, but I don't see them becoming completely obsolete. Even if cars in the future look nothing like the ones we have today, I still think the concept of private transportation would appeal to many people.

The first prototype for a flying car was created almost a year ago, but there will have to be sky traffic lanes and stuff like that and they need to perfect the fuel and stuff.
