Imagine your name is joe smithenson. You're walking down the street. Random guy pulls up and asks for your name. You ask him why he wants your name before you tell him. He has zero explicit reason so he asks again. You tell him your Joe Smithenson. He walks away without saying a word. Wouldn't you be wondering WHY he asked?

#43 why would you give him your full legal name tho? You can just tell him your first name and if he asked for your full name just say "sorry, I'm not comfortable to say my full name to strangers."
That's literally my point. If you tell him "joe", same thing happens. You'd still be wondering.
Scenario 2, you don't tell him anything. He walks away. Then when you continue whatever you were doing, you happen to cross paths again. Then he asks you for your name. You say nothing. He gets frustrated. Now you have to live with the guilt of making a random guy angry.
